| 'Legends of the Amazon' is the result of a cultural exploration by Brazilian artist, Kim Poor. The music was specially recorded to form part of Kim's 'Legends of the Amazon' exhibition and fuses the powerful natural sounds of the rainforest and native Amazon rhythms with contemporary digital synthesis: an exciting opportunity, enabling the ancient to dance alongside the modern. |
The tradition of the Amazonian Indian, exemplified in myth and legend, is rich and compelling. The music on 'Legends of the Amazon' has an enigmatic quality that reaches deep within the self, pulling out a timeless recognition. The tone is meditative, sometimes hypnotic, always still, yet always moving, like the Amazon itself.
The four legends included in the CD's booklet have been selected, translated and adapted from their original source and are accompanied by the ambient soundtrack and beautifully illustrated by Poor's inspired and unique vision - a colourful pageant of the senses!
'Legends of the Amazon' is both a celebration and a lament for something
fragile, something precious... something that is in danger of vanishing from
contemporary culture altogether and, perhaps, from the face of the earth.
