Kim Poor - Diaphanism © 1992

Kim met Dali in 1974 after being introduced by mutual friends in New York. Her work made an immediate impression on the great surrealist master. Dali thought that to look at Kim's paintings was as if to 'look through coloured gauze'; this inspired him to describe Kim's work as diaphanous and to coin the term 'Diaphanism' for her style.

'Diaphanism', as a new word to describe an art style originating with Kim Poor, is to be included in the third edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.
